Architects guitarist Tom Searle passes away aged 28

The lead guitarist and co-founder of Brighton metalcore moguls Architects Tom Searle has passed away, aged just 28.

Brother and co-founder Dan has said: “The following day he was placed into a medically induced coma and the doctors told us that it was unlikely that they’d ever be able to wake him. Five days later, against all the odds, he was awake again, and in a few short days following that, myself and Tom cancelled the air ambulance that was due to take him home and we got the Eurostar train home. Classic Tom Searle. He spent the last 2 months of his life fighting with everything he had to overcome the disease once and for all, and things appeared to be moving in the right direction, but in the last 2 weeks it suddenly took a turn for the worse and finally he left us.

The band have stated that Tom’s illness was the reason for cancelling their EU festival tour (including Download in June) and their US headline tour, and that he had been living with skin melanoma for three years despite having part of his lower leg removed back in 2013.

Architects have stated they will continue with their tours including the UK/EU headliner and the Australian Bring Me The Horizon tour later in the year.

RIP Tom Searle, a pioneer of technical metalcore and a true gentleman until the end.
