Danko Jones – Wild Cat [REVIEW]

The world of rock and roll is ever expanding from its many subgenres and bands that roam around the world, but sometimes you just want to go back to your routes. Enter Danko Jones who are looking to make you look back in nostalgia as they give you their latest album full of exciting times and an enjoyable selection of tracks.

The first track sets everything in motion with ‘I Gotta Rock’ having such a dance fuelled rhythm behind it that you just want to boogie as soon as you hear it! Whilst it might have a bit of heavier sound than what you might be used to with the genre, it only just pushes the modernisation of the genre with the guitar/bass work alongside the vocals are such a great fit. Moving into the cowbell ridden ‘My Little RnR’ which only pushes the band even higher in their musical capabilities. It keeps the same kind of pace, albeit a bit slower, but has its own certain flavour as it comes through  with the entire track feeling really like its own being from the rest of the record as well as showcasing their talent in the genre.

Moving on you have the record giving you some more desirable tracks to get your boogie on to. ‘You Are My Woman’ has a really nice guitar pattern with it as the vocals pass over nicely and the bass gets a nice groove throughout the entire track. ‘Lets Start Dancing’ picks up the pace with more of a double time feature and the vocals having more of a rapping/spoken word, but for the middle placement of the album it’s a nice sidetrack from the previous track that you’ve heard before. The later section of the album is still keeping with the same themes and the rock and roll influence is still running wild within the album. ‘Wild Cat’ is another great show of the quickened speed and the guitar technique that is used through the album with the vocals taking a different tonal pattern overall.

This album is a great throwback to a time where music felt really simple and didn’t have to showboat in order to get people to like it. If you need an album just full of rock and roll enjoyment, then you needn’t look any further than this record right here!
